About TenneT
TenneT is a leading electricity transmission system operator based in the Netherlands. The company was established in 1998 and is responsible for all the high voltage electricity lines in the Netherlands and a significant portion of Germany.
Also, TenneT plays an important role when it comes to integrating renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar power, into the grid. By doing this, they support the transition to a more sustainable energy system.
The Challenge
TenneT, which is the only transmission system operator in the Netherlands, faces challenges when it comes to finding skilled labor and optimizing internal processes. Their technicians are responsible for inspections, maintenance, and repairs however these repairs must often happen at inconvenient times. So, to enhance efficiency and reduce unnecessary travel, TenneT is testing the RealWear Navigator 52 which is a hands free wearable device integrated with Microsoft Teams and Remote Assist.
This device can be mounted on a helmet and it allows technicians to call in remote experts who can see their work in real time through a built in camera. As such, experts can provide instant guidance and helping resolve issues faster without requiring another technician to travel on site.
TenneT’s Digital Solution – Hands Free Remote Assistance with RealWear

TenneT is piloting the RealWear Navigator 520, a hands free headset designed for remote assistance. As the operator of the Netherlands’ high voltage power grid, TenneT’s field technicians frequently need to communicate while performing critical tasks. Currently they rely on smartphones to communicate, which limits efficiency and safety as it requires them to use their hands. So, Recreate helped them implement and run the RealWear Navigator 520.
With this hands free device, technicians can use voice commands to call their colleagues. Due to this device, they can receive real time remote support without interrupting their work. This enables faster problem solving and improves workplace safety. Moreover, it ensures that experts can assist from anywhere and so reducing the need for unnecessary travel.
