Shortage of personnel
At the end of 2017, Statistics Netherlands (CBS) noted that there was a growing shortage of personnel in the industry. Nearly 16% of the companies in this sector report that the shortage of personnel results in an obstruction to production. The number of people employed is almost 9% lower than in 2005, and the sector is also ageing. The increased shortage of personnel coincides with increased demand: the percentage of companies experiencing a shortage of demand is at its lowest level since the end of 2008. It is therefore logical that the number of vacancies in the industry continues to rise. At the end of the third quarter of 2017, there were 23 vacancies per thousand employee jobs.
